AION 2 Pets and Genus Insight Guide

Quick Answer

Regular AION 2 Global pets use 5, then 25, then 75 souls to reach level 3: 105 total. Pet Insight develops one pet; Genus Insight develops its family separately.

Unlock regular AION 2 Global pets by collecting their matching monster souls, then raise each pet to level 3 for stronger Owned Effects. Pet Insight belongs to an individual pet; Genus Insight develops its family separately. For regular soul-collected Global pets, the documented target is 105 collected souls per pet, not 105 guaranteed kills. Special pets can have different acquisition rules.

Separate Pet Insight from Genus Insight

The Pets menu contains two related progression systems. Start by identifying which counter you are trying to raise.

SystemWhat you developWhat to check
Pet InsightOne pet in your collectionIts soul count, current level and Owned Effects
Genus InsightOne of five pet familiesThe selected family's Insight level, analysis effects and resource cost

The family names used in the Global guides are Cogni, Fera, Natura, Varian and Special. An upgrade on one family does not finish the other four. Likewise, reaching an individual pet's level cap does not mean that its family has reached Genus Insight level 10.

Owned Effects on regular pets contribute bonuses without requiring you to ride that specific pet. This makes the collection useful even when you already have a preferred mount. Read the effect you will gain before choosing a farming target; another useful collection bonus may serve your character better than repeatedly hunting a pet you have already finished.

Unlock and level a regular pet

The Global pet-leveling reference gives the following requirements for regular pets collected through monster souls:

Pet level reachedAdditional souls neededTotal collected souls
Level 1: unlock55
Level 22530
Level 375105

The second and third rows are additional requirements. A level-2 pet represents 30 souls collected altogether, rather than a total of 25. Each pet has its own progression; souls for one monster do not finish a different pet's counter.

These figures describe regular pets in Global. Do not follow a different region's higher pet-level cap as if it were the same checklist. Check an unusual or Special pet's own entry before applying the table to it.

Find the right monster with Source

  1. Open Pets and select the pet you want to develop.
  2. Open Source and choose a listed monster location.
  3. Inspect the map at a useful zoom level, then travel to a nearby teleport point.
  4. Look around the marked area and confirm the monster's name before starting a long farm.
  5. Collect the soul drops and return to the pet entry periodically to check actual progress.

A teleport point is a travel aid, rather than a promise that the monster stands directly beside it. If the area has several similar enemies, use the source entry and monster name together. Count the souls registered for your target pet instead of estimating progress from how many enemies you defeated.

Some pets list multiple locations. If another group is clearing the camp before you reach the targets, inspect the alternatives and choose an area your character can handle. Waiting at a contested camp is not automatically the fastest route just because it is the first location in the menu.

Check drops before moving on

Soul collection is the objective. After a kill, check the drops and ensure they have been picked up; do not assume every soul was collected automatically. If the counter stops moving, verify the monster, the loot and the selected pet before spending more time in the same spot.

When leveling your character, collect useful souls along your current quest route and return for dedicated pet farming later. Once you can focus on collection, choose a pet, finish a clear milestone, then compare the next Owned Effect you could obtain. There is no need to turn every available pet into one uninterrupted grind.

Develop the five Genus Insight families

Open the main menu, choose Pets, then select Genus Insight at the top. Select the family you intend to develop before examining its progress and available effects.

Obtaining and leveling pets contributes to their family progression. Analysis is another way to gain Genus Insight experience and change the board's effects. The Genus Insight walkthrough documents pet acquisition, reaching Pet Insight levels 2 and 3, and analysis as experience sources.

This gives you two practical checks before spending resources: look for unfinished pets in the family you are developing, and inspect the board's current analysis cost. Collecting a pet you still need and repeatedly analyzing an existing board are different actions; choose deliberately instead of assuming only one of them moves family progress.

Family Insight is separate from an individual pet’s level.

Budget analysis before chasing a perfect roll

Analysis spends Soul Crystals and Kina. The cost depends on the board's state, and locking effects raises the cost of subsequent rolls. Inspect the amount shown by the current client before confirming an analysis.

Separate the goal of raising a family level from the goal of preserving a particular effect. A lock can preserve something you value, but it also changes your resource budget. If you only want progression, do not lock effects automatically just because the button is available. If a current effect matters to your build, consider that tradeoff before replacing it.

Auto analysis can repeatedly spend resources while looking for the rarity you selected. Review its stopping condition and your available resources before starting it. A higher target rarity is not a guarantee of a quick result, and the level milestone itself does not require a perfect set of rolls.

For the dedicated title route and its five-family requirement, use Unbound by Genus. Keep that checklist separate from leveling an individual pet.

Choose the next pet by its useful effect

Choose a specific benefit before choosing a farming spot. Compare the pet's listed Owned Effects with your current goal, check how far it is from its next level, and confirm that you can reach its Source location.

This is more useful than treating one genus as universally best for every class. A ranking cannot decide whether your immediate problem is missing attacks, surviving a fight, or movement. Use the actual effects and your current character's needs; then compare pet progress with the other upgrades available to you.

Pet transformation is a separate use of the collection. Unlocking a pet, developing its Owned Effects and turning your character into that pet are different steps. See the existing transformation guide for its item and activation rules rather than assuming that earning a pet or raising a Genus board automatically transforms your character.
