The AION 2 max level is 45 on Global as of October 10, 2026. Korea and Taiwan have later level 50 content, so their cap and progression guides do not describe the current Global climb.
Your character level, equipment Item Level and combat power measure different things. Reaching 45 ends the character-level climb; it does not give you every item, complete every quest or guarantee that you meet a dungeon's equipment requirements. Before choosing a leveling route, identify which of these numbers you are trying to raise. A character that is already 45 needs a progression decision rather than more experience farming.
Read the correct level number
Look at your character's level before comparing it with a dungeon requirement or another player's profile. A large equipment number is not evidence that someone has exceeded the character cap. Likewise, a combat-power increase can happen while your character level stays exactly the same. Gear, skills and other growth systems continue to matter after leveling stops.
This distinction also explains why two level 45 characters can perform very differently. One may have completed more permanent progression and another may still be using leveling equipment. The number beside the character is the same, but their readiness for a particular encounter is not. Use character level to answer whether you have finished the climb; use the activity's actual requirements to judge access.

The character level is the small 45 indicator, separate from equipment progression.
Keep the Global cap separate from later regional updates. A Korean or Taiwanese article discussing level 50 can be accurate for its service without announcing a Global increase. Do not start grinding toward 50 because a search result uses that number. Check which service your character belongs to, then follow the route and systems available there.
Follow the story through your faction's homeland
Episode Quests form the main leveling route. They move you through the starting experience and into the larger homeland where the climb to 45 takes place. Regional Quests and Sealed Dungeons supplement that path, particularly when you need more progression before the next story step.
The two factions use different locations. Elyos begin in Poeta and continue into Verteron. Asmodians begin in Ishalgen and continue into Altgard. A map or walkthrough for the opposite faction can show a real quest while still sending you to an inaccessible or irrelevant place. Match the faction before matching a location name.
A practical session starts with the next available Episode objective. Finish its nearby steps before crossing the map for optional activities. When an episode opens Regional Quests in the same area, inspect those rewards and objectives together. Grouping nearby tasks reduces travel without requiring a speedrun route or skipping the story you want to experience.
Use the following sequence when progressing normally:
- Identify the next Episode Quest and the area it sends you to.
- Complete the current story objectives and collect their rewards.
- Inspect Regional Quests that have opened in that area.
- Add a suitable Sealed Dungeon when it helps your current level or Ascension progress.
- Return to the story when its next objective becomes available.
This is a route-selection method, not a promise that every optional activity is mandatory. If the Episode chain is already progressing smoothly, keep following it. If a gate or a difficult fight stops you, use nearby supplementary content to address that specific obstacle.
Recognize an Ascension gate before farming more enemies
The climb includes Ascension requirements rather than a single uninterrupted experience bar. Global leveling guidance identifies important gates around levels 22 and 32. At these points, filling the required Ascension Gauge and completing the corresponding Ascension quest is part of advancing, not an optional endgame chore.
If your apparent progress stalls near one of these stages, inspect Ascension before assuming the game has a lower maximum level. The useful question is whether your character has completed the required progression step. Killing more enemies will not substitute for a quest that still needs completion.
A safe recovery path is to read the active Ascension objective, inspect the gauge and finish the relevant optional quests or Sealed Dungeons that contribute to it. Once the gauge requirement is met, complete the Ascension quest itself. Then return to the Episode chain and check whether normal progression resumes.
Do not confuse a recommended quest level with automatic completion. A system can become available at a level while still requiring an action from you. The same principle applies to skills unlocked through progression: arriving at the number is only one condition. Check the quest state instead of assuming that a menu or skill should already be usable.
When helping an alt, compare its own completed quests and gauge with the main character's history. Knowing the route makes the climb easier to plan, but familiarity does not mean the alt has already fulfilled its progression conditions. Treat its current journal and available objectives as the starting point.
Understand why the final levels take longer
Experience requirements become much larger toward the end of the climb. Early levels can pass quickly enough to create an unrealistic expectation for the last stretch. A slow-looking experience bar in the forties does not, by itself, mean that a quest reward failed or that the cap has changed.
The important comparison is progress toward the next level, not the number of levels gained during a previous session. Moving from an early level to the next one and moving from 44 to 45 are not equivalent tasks. Plan your available time around your current stage rather than extrapolating from the opening hour.
For a first character, prioritize a route you can follow reliably. Getting lost, retrying a fight without changing your approach or leaving rewards unclaimed can erase the benefit of a theoretically faster quest order. A familiar route with fewer mistakes often works better than copying a speedrun that assumes extensive prior knowledge.
You can track a session without inventing an hourly target. Note your starting level, the active story chapter and the obstacle you expect to clear. At the end, record the completed chapter or Ascension step as well as the new level. That gives you a more useful picture than judging the session solely by how many levels appeared.
Use Regional Quests and Sealed Dungeons for a specific gap
Regional Quests are tied to areas opened through Episode progress. Besides experience, they can provide growth resources such as Wisdom Stones and Daevanion Crystals. This makes them more useful than treating every side objective as interchangeable experience padding.
When choosing between nearby tasks, consider the actual problem. If the next fight is difficult, a reward that supports skills or other character growth may be relevant alongside its experience. If your Ascension progress is incomplete, choose an activity that helps that requirement. If travel is the main delay, finish the cluster of objectives already around you.
Sealed Dungeons are exploration activities with recommended difficulty levels. A recommendation helps you estimate the challenge; it is not the same thing as an automatic guarantee that your current equipment and play will be sufficient. Avoid spending an entire session repeating an encounter that you cannot yet finish consistently.
Strongholds are another form of exploration content. They can fit into a leveling session when they are appropriate for your current area and ability. This page does not provide every location: the useful decision is whether nearby exploration solves your current progression gap. For exact markers, use a map matched to your faction and Global service.
Deal with deaths and lost experience
Death can reduce accumulated experience, and the game describes recovery through Soul Healing. Read the death or recovery message before deciding that the experience bar has malfunctioned. The amount shown for your character is more useful than assuming a fixed penalty from another player's screenshot.
After repeated deaths, change the immediate task. Check whether the enemy is suitable for your current progress, whether you are handling its attacks and whether your equipment or skills have fallen behind. Returning to nearby quests or easier exploration can move the character forward while you prepare for the difficult objective.
Do not judge a class's entire leveling suitability from a single failed encounter. A ranged character standing in melee pressure, a support character neglecting its damage tools or a melee character ignoring a dangerous attack can all lose time for different reasons. Fix the situation that caused the death before deciding to restart on another class.
For a difficult story encounter, separate reaching the objective from defeating its enemy. If travel and navigation are fine but the fight is failing, more route optimization will not solve the problem. Review your current combat options, approach the pull deliberately and preserve a safe way to recover when the encounter allows it.
Estimate time without treating a speedrun as a requirement
There is no single completion time that describes every first character. Knowing the quests, skipping dialogue, playing uninterrupted and avoiding side systems can shorten a run. Reading the story, exploring, learning a class and taking breaks naturally produces a longer result.
A published fast run shows what one route and one player's familiarity achieved. It does not establish a deadline that a new player should meet. Use it to understand task order if that is your goal, rather than interpreting a slower personal pace as wasted progress.
Decide what you want from the character before optimizing. If this is your first story playthrough, following Episode Quests at a comfortable pace is a valid route to the same cap. If it is an alt, your knowledge of faction locations and Ascension stages can help you reduce searching. Neither approach changes the Global maximum.
Stop experience farming when the character reaches 45

Level Up Info shows the final Global character-level milestone.
Once your Global character is level 45, additional character-level grinding is not the route to level 50. Progress shifts toward the systems and equipment available at the cap. Finish any necessary quest or Ascension action, then choose an appropriate next objective rather than repeatedly testing whether ordinary experience will unlock another level.
Before leaving the leveling route, confirm three things: the character actually displays 45, the story or Ascension step you intended to complete is finished, and you understand the difference between your level and equipment requirements. Those checks tell you whether the climb is complete without turning the cap into a claim that the character is already fully developed.
